American media reported that security authorities suspect that a former member of the FBI and Naval Intelligence was involved in standing behind the storming of the Capitol building in early January.
The “Washington Post” newspaper reported that investigations suspected that Thomas Edward Caldwell, a former member of the FBI and US Navy intelligence, was one of the organizers of the January 6th storming of the Capitol building in Washington.
The investigation found that Caldwell, 66, organized a group of “trained fighters” and was in contact with paramilitary organizations such as “Fakhour Boyz”, “Department Guards” and “Three Percent”.
Caldwell is suspected of using his intelligence background to “plan violence” in the weeks leading up to the attack, including the possible use of snipers and an armory in a boat on the Potomac River.
Prosecutors have already requested a federal court to issue an arrest warrant for Caldwell, while his lawyer confirms his client’s innocence.
The newspaper indicates that, according to the FBI, the five defendants who stormed the Capitol building in special helmets and vests were linked to the extreme right-wing “Proud Boys”.
