A freezing cold wave and snow crippling the second largest US state and cutting off electricity to millions of residents

Officials in the US state of Texas announced that two people were likely killed by the freezing temperatures that caused blackouts on more than four million people in the state.

Unusual snowstorms accompanied by bitter cold hit large parts of the southern United States, knocking out electricity in Texas, canceling flights and creating traffic chaos.

US President Joe Biden declared a state of emergency on Monday, and decided to send federal aid to the state of Texas, where temperatures on Monday ranged from minus 22 degrees Celsius to minus six degrees.
