The “Defense News” website indicated that the tests of the manned unmanned team are still in their early stages, and that they will be conducted during the next five years, explaining that according to reports received in South Korea, the development of light armed helicopters of the Korean company “KAI” will provide the ability to attack without Pilot.
Reports in South Korea pointed to the administration of the government’s defense acquisition program, saying that “KAI” will develop light armed helicopters with the concept of teamwork drone in mind.
Loitering munitions are also known as “kamikaze” drones, because they can be used as weapons by hitting the target.
KAI representative, Han Jeong Eun, said, “The unmanned flight system will allow pilots to approach and launch armed unmanned aerial vehicles (drones), which will fire or bomb enemy targets without posing a threat to the pilots themselves.”
For his part, the President and CEO of the Israeli company “IAI”, Boaz Levy, explained that the memorandum, which was announced on March 3, “is another milestone in our increased cooperation with KAI.”
“IAI has long-standing relations with the Republic of Korea and local industries, and we are delighted to join KAI, one of the leading companies in Korea, to explore future opportunities,” Levy said, using the official name of South Korea, noting that the combination of the IAI’s munitions experience with KAI technology. It will create opportunities for an improved solution on the future battlefield.
Defense News pointed out that the Israeli-Korean agreement depends on equipping South Korea’s light combat helicopters with suicide drones (kamikaze) manufactured by Israel, and enabling the new combat machine to fight battles in the future.
