(Trends Wide) — A large group of people on the Mexican side of the border formed up and approached the international border in El Paso on Sunday afternoon in an attempt to enter the United States en masse, according to US Customs and Border Protection. United States (CBP).
“CBP works to maintain the legal and orderly flow of entry into the United States while protecting the security of legitimate trade and travel, CBP facilities and its workforce.
“CBP agents, including members of the CBP Mobile Field Force, implemented port tightening measures on the Paso Del Norte International Bridge at 1:30 p.m. today and temporarily impeded the flow of northbound traffic after that a large group of people formed on the Mexican side of the border and approached the international border, posing a potential threat to make a mass entry,” CBP said in a statement obtained by Trends Wide late Sunday.
The agency also noted that physical barriers were used to restrict entry on the Paso del Norte bridge but it reopened a few hours later on Sunday night.
“You can see here that traffic is now flowing in both directions again,” CBP said in a statement to Trends Wide.
Large numbers of people also disrupted two other border crossings this Sunday.
“There were also temporary interruptions at two other crossings due to the appearance of groups of migrants. Barricades were used at the Stanton Crossing from 2 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. and at the Bridge of the Americas from 2:45 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.,” the agency said in its statement.
Trends Wide has reached out to El Paso city officials for a statement.
