(Trends Wide) — Jacksonville Beach police announced the arrest of a man in connection with what they described as the “planned and directed ambush and murder” of Jared Bridegan in February of last year.
According to Jacksonville Beach Police Chief Paul Smith, Bridegan had dined, as he did weekly, with his 9-year-old twins and their 2-year-old half-sister, and was driving home when he was shot. and died.
Smith said Bridegan had dropped off the twins at their mother’s house and was driving her 2-year-old daughter home when she ran into a tire on the road. Police believe the tire was placed there on purpose to make it stop.
Bridegan got out of the car to move the tire when he was “murdered in cold blood,” Smith said. Nothing was removed from the vehicle and the 2-year-old girl was uninjured in her car seat.
“This was a planned and directed ambush and murder,” Smith said in announcing an arrest in the case.
Police have arrested and charged Henry Tenon with conspiracy to commit murder, second-degree murder with a weapon, and concealment after the act of a capital offense and child abuse, state attorney Melissa Nelson said during the news conference.
To protect the integrity of the active and ongoing investigation, the state obtained a court order to seal the arrest warrant and affidavit in the case for 30 days, Nelson said.
Tenon will make his first court appearance on Thursday and the state plans to present the case to a grand jury to seek an indictment for first-degree murder, he added.
Jail records show Tenon has been in the custody of the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office since August 2022 on charges unrelated to Bridegan’s murder.
