A scientist from the Russian Academy of Sciences warned of the danger of meeting the Corona and influenza epidemics in the current period, stressing that the time to abandon medical masks (masks) has not come yet.

Valery Cherishnev, scientific director of the Institute of Immunology and Physiology of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Ural Branch, stated that the peak of influenza activity traditionally occurs in January, February and March, and this period coincides in 2021 with the ongoing Corona virus pandemic, which contributes to creating certain risks.
The scientist pointed out that a moderate strain of influenza is now spreading in Russia, expressing his hope that “no other pathogen will join,” which appears in the country from time to time in a period between two or three years.
Cherishnev asked in this context, saying: “What if Corona virus infection and influenza coexist? I hope this will not happen, but now is the time in January, February and March. Only at the end of March will we breathe freely.”
The member of the Russian Academy of Sciences stressed that the chance of an epidemic accumulating on another cannot be reduced except by using personal protective equipment, indicating that it is too early to stop wearing masks.
At the same time, the scientist pointed out that “the Corona virus has receded a little, but we should not forget another virus, the flu also does not sleep. Now the masks (masks) save us from the influenza epidemic.”
