Tobias Harris completed during the 2020-21 season a process of redemption with himself and of reconciliation with the ever demanding Philadelphia fans. He registered career stops in some statistical sections which, together with his good level of play, helped him to be considered to play the All-Star Game. More importantly, he helped throw a compact pile of dirt onto a contract whose numbers far exceeded his on-track performance during the previous season.
That said, it didn’t turn out to be a perfect season for Harris either. Far, even, for a player who will earn 35.9 million dollars this next season, establishing himself as the 13th highest paid player in the entire league for the next. His playoff performance was solid although he sinned from that plus unable to deliver in the key moments of the tie against the Atlanta Hawks. While he improved defensively, he did not establish himself as a prominent presence. And despite fulfilling a much more limited and condensed role under Doc Rivers, his offensive flaws did not completely disappear.
Now, Harris will be asked for another quantum leap in his game that will make him a more well-rounded player and also an even more vital pillar of the ringing aspirations of the Philadephia 76ers. His responsibility, gallons and work volume will depend a lot on the continuity of Ben Simmons, but even with him he will have to prove himself ready for greater challenges.
