Ugandan presidential candidate Bobby Wayne
Ugandan presidential candidate and pop star Bobby Wayne announced that one of his bodyguards was killed by running into a police car.
“I regret to announce the killing of Francis Cintiza Calipala, a member of my security team,” Wayne said. “He was deliberately run over by a military police truck.”
Police spokesman Fred Inanga said in a statement to “Reuters”: “Wayne’s supporters gathered today in Masaka, 125 km southwest of the capital, Kampala.”
Inanga added, “Wayne’s supporters were a violent group … Tear gas was used to quell the violence, and the journalists were unfortunately injured during the violent group dispersal.”
He pointed out that “a journalist affiliated with a local TV channel was seriously injured above his left eye, allegedly as a result of being hit by a tear gas canister.”
