According to the Spanish sports newspaper, Marca, the selection of the teams to which the invitation will be sent will be based on a cumulative evaluation of their results during the 5 years prior to the edition to which they will be invited.
The idea was put up for discussion during a meeting that took place on Monday, but its implementation will not be before at least two years from now, according to the newspaper.
For example, if an English team cannot qualify for the Champions League through the top four places in the Premier League, it may be able to participate if it wins the title within 5 years of the edition in question.
And this advantage can serve major teams if they falter in a season, and fail to qualify directly for the most important European championship through the domestic league.
European teams are rushing to participate in the Champions League, in order to take advantage of the large financial revenues that are granted to them by participating only, not to mention achieving good results.
