A source at the Institute for Scientific Studies of Influenza in Petersburg said that the vaccine against Corona, which was designed by this government institution, in the form of a spray, showed an immune response and safety during preclinical trials.
The source added, during an interview with “TASS” agency: “The preclinical studies of a new vaccine against Covid-19 are continuing in the Influenza Research Institute of the Russian Ministry of Health. Good results have been obtained so far, with regard to its safety and immune activity (production of antibodies). The protective properties of the vaccine against the emerging corona virus are being studied, using different animal models.
Before that, a source in the same institution mentioned that the institute’s scientists are developing a vaccine against the emerging corona virus infection on the basis of the influenza virus. And he indicated that during this, a weak version of this virus is used as a vector to transport the coronavirus proteins, which the immune response to which should provide protection from the disease.
The source added, that the conservative part of the influenza virus will be used to enter the cells. The source noted that the vaccine will be vaccinated in the form of drops or sprays through the nose.
The source added that he plans to start conducting toxicological studies in the near future. It is expected that all preclinical studies will be completed by May 2021.
