Today, Sunday, an Iraqi political source revealed that the government is conducting negotiations with demonstrators in Dhi Qar Governorate to stop the demonstrations until after the Pope’s visit to the governorate.
The source told RT, “The government is trying to convince the demonstrators of the need to calm the situation until after the Pope’s visit to Ziggurat Ur in the province.”
He added, “The Iraqi government may decide to impose a complete curfew during the days of the Pope’s visit.”
Yesterday, our correspondent in Iraq reported that tension has returned to Dhi Qar Governorate, in the south of the country, after a day in which more than 100 people were wounded and killed.
The Pope is scheduled to start a four-day visit to Iraq on Friday to express his solidarity with the Christian community, which has been crushed by wars and the “ISIS” fighters.
