Ukrainian hacker Vyacheslav Igorevich Penchukov, wanted since 2012 by the american justicewas arrested last month in Switzerland, the specialized portal Krebs on Security revealed on Friday.
The 40-year-old man was arrested in the canton of Geneva on October 23 when he visited his wife, the portal reported.
The Swiss Federal Office of Justice (OFJ) confirmed to the Watson news page the arrest of a Ukrainian citizen requested by the US authorities and specified that the defendant refuses to be extradited to the United States.
“The OFJ decided on October 15, 2022 to authorize his extradition to the United States,” spokesman Raphael Frei told the Swiss information portal, specifying that the accused can appeal the decision.
Penchukov He is accused in the United States of leading a group of computer hackers that stole millions of dollars through bank accounts.
According to Krebs on Security, Penchukov is originally from the Donetsk region of Ukraine, a territory in eastern Ukraine that was recently annexed by Russia.
