Manchester City qualified for the Champions League semi-finals, after a negative draw with Atletico Madrid, at the latter’s land, on Wednesday evening, to maintain its 1-0 victory in the first leg.
As the match drew to a close, Atletico Madrid players began to behave violently and recklessly towards the Manchester City players, until the Brazilian Felipe was expelled for his violent intervention on Englishman Phil Foden.
The pitch witnessed violent confrontations between the players, and it was clear that Atletico players targeted Manchester City’s English stars, such as Foden, Jack Grealish and Rahim Sterling.
It later emerged that the quarrel continued outside the stadium, in the tunnel leading to the dressing rooms.
The footage in the tunnel revealed a quarrel between Grealish and Atletico Serbian defender Stefan Savic, until they were separated by other players.
It also showed the attack of the Atlético defender, Croatian Simi Vrsaljko, against the French defender of Man City, Americ Laporte, while defender Kyle Walker went to the quarrel with a group of Atletico Madrid players.
As the situation worsened, a number of Spanish police officers entered, to control the situation, and to separate the players of the two teams.
The video spread on social media, and received great criticism from Atletico Madrid players, who showed a complete lack of sports ethics and unwillingness to accept defeat, according to activists on Twitter.
And Manchester City, the other pole of Madrid, will face Real Madrid in the Champions League semi-finals, at an expected summit two weeks from now.
