Abdullahian expressed – in an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera – his happiness at entering the humanitarian truce that was reached between the Islamic Resistance Movement (agitation) and the Israeli occupation is in force, adding that he hopes that efforts will continue to reach a permanent ceasefire and the war crimes committed by the “Zionist entity” against the people of Gaza.
He pointed out that his country’s efforts played a role in reaching this truce through the initiative presented by Iranian President Ibrahim Raisi to stop war crimes in coordination with the leaders of Islamic countries, which resulted in a meeting. Diplomatic efforts
The Iranian Foreign Minister appreciated the Qatari efforts to complete this truce, pointing to his continuous communication with his Qatari counterpart, Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, and their contacts with Hamas leaders to reach the stage of stopping the “crimes of the Zionist entity” and fulfilling the rights of the Palestinian people.
He stressed the need to focus on turning this truce into a permanent ceasefire, because if otherwise, the region will face new and different circumstances, and that the “Zionist entity” and America must bear its dire consequences, as he put it.
He pointed out that his country had received, during the last ten days, messages from the American side through intermediaries, stating that they were not looking to expand the scope of the war, after it became clear to them that unlimited support for the Israeli occupation would not be in the interest of the politicians in the White House, and that they would work to stop the war and prevent Displacement of Palestinians.
He added that he hopes that this news is true, and that the sincerity of America’s intentions will be demonstrated by the extent of its readiness to force the Israeli occupation to adhere to the truce and turn it into a sustainable ceasefire.
An ominous phenomenon
He stressed his country’s support for the Palestinian resistance, stressing the legitimacy of this and its compatibility with international law, which considers the occupation an “ominous phenomenon”, and supports its resistance in all available ways.
Regarding his country’s position on the two-state solution, Abdullahian said that Tehran supports the formation of a single, unified Palestinian state throughout the historical territories of Palestine, with Holy Jerusalem as its capital, pointing out that Iran’s vision for a political solution is based on the proposal to hold a self-determining referendum for the indigenous people of Palestine of all sects and ethnicities.
The Iranian Foreign Minister stressed that the Israeli occupation failed to achieve its declared goal of eliminating the Hamas movement, which he believes is rooted and stable in Gaza.
In this context, Abdullahian pointed out that he met with resistance leaders who assured him that only 10 to 12% of their capabilities and energies had been used in the Gaza Strip, and that they had the ability to continue the confrontation for months to come.
He added that his country believes that the future of Gaza will be determined by the Palestinian people and their resistance, and that if America imagines that it can make a decision regarding post-war Gaza instead of the Palestinian people, then it is thinking wrongly, as it imagined in 2006 that it could be eliminated.
