(Trends Wide) — Approximately 45,359 kilograms of raw ground chicken burgers are being recalled, sold primarily at Trader Joe’s.
The Food Safety and Inspection Service of the US Department of Agriculture (USDA). said in a press release that the affected ground chicken could be “contaminated with foreign materials, specifically pieces of bone.”
The Trader Joe’s items affected are two frozen chicken products: Lemon Chili Chicken Burgers and Feta Spinach Chicken Burgers.
The USDA said the problem was discovered by the Washington-based manufacturer, Innovation Solutions, after “complaints from consumers who reported findings of bones in the chicken burger product.”
Consumers who have these items in the freezer can check the packages to see if they are included in the recall. The affected Chilean Lime Chicken Burgers have batch codes 2281, 2291, 2311, 2351, 2361, 2371, 2441, 2511, 2521, 2531, 2561, 2591, 2601, 2671, and 2721. Feta Chicken Burgers and spinach that are recalled are the 4-kilo containers containing 72 pieces, with lot codes 2361 and 2631.
Customers are asked to discard recalled products or return them to the store. Both products were sold nationwide and were produced between August 16 and September 29.
The USDA said there have been “no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.”
Trader Joe’s did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
