Last week, local sources and eyewitnesses in North Darfur state told Al Jazeera Net that the Rapid Support Forces burned about 45 villages during the past two weeks, which led to about 20,000 people fleeing towards neighboring Chad.
These forces have been waging an armed conflict with the Sudanese army for more than a year, and on October 14, they began “retaliatory” campaigns targeting the areas of the African Zaghawa tribe in North Darfur state, claiming that the tribe supports the Joint Force, which is a coalition of armed movements fighting alongside Sudanese army Against rapid support in El Fasher Capital of North Darfur State.

The head of the Zaghawa Shura Council confirmed that the number of villages targeted by the Rapid Support retaliatory campaigns rose to about 120 villages, causing the displacement of more than 70,000 and the death of more than 30 people.
He accused the Rapid Support Forces and the Arab militias allied with them of seeking to change the demographic composition of the indigenous population and bringing in groups coming from neighboring countries to act as mercenaries, as happened in the town of “Al-Zarq”, an area located on the triple border between Sudan, Chad and Libya that the Rapid Support Forces use as a logistical base.

He added in an interview with Al Jazeera Net, “The head of the so-called Zaghawa Shura speaks without authorization from his tribe, and Zaghawa members hold leadership positions in the Rapid Support, and they also have a large presence in El Daein, Nyala, and Zalingei – capitals of states in Darfur controlled by the Rapid Support – without being exposed to them.” “One.”
Rizkallah accused the Sudanese army and its allies from the armed movements of planning to transfer the war to the Darfur region, and pointed out that they monitored military movements of the joint force in the Al-Dabba area in northern Sudan and other areas in order to reach Darfur and ignite fighting there.
He said that the army’s warplanes were constantly dropping huge military supplies in the areas of Al-Tineh and elsewhere in preparation for igniting war and involving the Zaghawa tribe in a battle that he described as “losing.”
