French police arrested a Greco-Roman wrestler from the Egyptian delegation participating in the Paris Olympics early Friday morning on suspicion of sexually assaulting a female customer in a bar, the public prosecutor's office said, confirming information reported by the newspaper Le Parisien.

It concerns Mohamed El Sayed (26 years old), who won the bronze medal in the 67 kg weight class three years ago in Tokyo and who was eliminated from the round of 16 of the Paris Games on Wednesday after losing to Azerbaijani Hasrat Jafarov.

According to the Paris prosecutor's office, the Egyptian wrestler was arrested outside a cafe in the capital's 13th arrondissement at around 5 a.m. on charges of sexually assaulting a female customer at the bar.

According to Le Parisien, he was arrested and claimed to have committed the act while “drunk”.

Penalty up to final deletion

Yasser Idris, head of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, decided today, Friday, to refer Kisho to the Committee of Bodies, Clubs and Values.

The committee is set to investigate the player's accusation of “irresponsible behaviour” following the end of his participation with the Egyptian delegation in the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The Olympic Committee indicated that if Kishu is convicted, the penalty may reach his expulsion and permanent exclusion from practicing the game.

An official statement from the Egyptian Olympic Committee's media center said: “Yasser Idris, head of the Egyptian Olympic Committee, decided to refer player Mohamed Ibrahim Kisho to the Committee of Bodies, Clubs and Values, headed by Sherif El-Gamaty, to investigate the player's alleged irresponsible behavior after his participation in the Olympic Games ended, and hours before his return flight to Egypt.”

The statement added: “Alaa Gabr, head of the Egyptian mission, and Abdel Aziz Ghanem were assigned to investigate the player's absence.”

He continued: “The head of the Wrestling Federation and the head of the wrestling delegation stated that the player left the mission with the permission of the head of the wrestling delegation to watch the final wrestling match in his weight class, and did not return to the mission headquarters and turned off his phone.”

He explained: “Yasser Idris asked the Committee of Bodies, Clubs and Values ​​to strictly apply the regulations against the player and any other official in the wrestling delegation who is proven to be responsible for these actions.”

The statement concluded: “If the player is proven to have violated the law, the penalty may reach final expulsion and exclusion from playing the game locally and internationally.”
