Activision Blizzard, which was acquired by the technology company Microsoft a few days ago, will launch at least the next three video game installments Call of Duty for PlayStation.
The creator of the famous video game would have promised that the titles of the franchise released during this 2022 would be available for the Sony console before the announcement of said acquisition, four sources familiar with the agreement informed Bloomberg.
It is expected that throughout this year the continuation of Modern Warfare, whose development is in the hands of Infinity Ward, as well as another title Treyarch is working on. Both studios are owned by Activision.
To these projects is added a third party that would also be included in the agreement. This is a new installment of Call Of Duty: Warzone, the free-to-play cross-platform battle royale that launched in 2020.
The CEO of Microsoft’s video game unit, Phil Spencer, declared a few days ago that the contractual agreement with the manufacturer of PlayStation behind the acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
“I have spoken with the heads of Sony this week. I have confirmed our intention to honor all existing agreements following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard and our desire to maintain Call of Duty en PlayStation. Sony is an important part of our industry and we value our relationship,” Spencer posted on Twitter.
These statements came after Sony said that it expected Microsoft to maintain the multiplatform format of video games developed and published by Activision Blizzard, so that Playstation players could continue to use their titles.
According to the sources consulted by Bloomberg, Microsoft would not only have promised to launch Call Of Duty para PlayStation during 2022, but also in the coming year. However, the future of this game on the Sony console is still up in the air.
Microsoft announced the purchase of Activision Blizzard for a value of 68,700 million dollars, which is the largest acquisition in the history of the video game sector. With it, the Xbox Game Studios label will also grow, once the acquisition is completed.
