Robin Verastigi, 27, was charged with “distributing material with child pornography”, according to a statement issued by the Washington Metropolitan Police Department.
“Between March 2020 and February 2021, an investigation revealed that the suspect (Verastigi) had distributed, received and possessed images of child pornography,” the statement said.
According to LinkedIn, this digital expert worked as an ad design for the Republican Senate from March 2019 through July 2020.
Robin Verastegui was recently employed by the nonprofit Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions, while The Daily Beast stated that he was no longer working there as of Saturday, and a spokesperson for the non-profit organization told the Daily Beast: “The details of the allegations against Mr. Verastigi is tragic and shocking … he is no longer working for the organization, and we are ready to cooperate fully with law enforcement requests in this regard, to any extent required. “
Special agents at the US Department of Homeland Security began to look to Verastigi, while investigating a group of at least 18 people, who said they “trade in child pornography,” according to court documents.
Investigators indicated that there was a suspicion that Verrastigi used the username “Landon” in the group chat, and used the “somethingtaken” handle.
In one case of contact, Verastigi was said to have told another user that “kids” were his “absolute favorite,” according to the Daily Mail.
After the storming of the US Capitol in Washington on January 6, Verastigi posted a picture of the Capitol building on “Instagram”, and wrote a comment on it: “America will prevail.”
