An Afghan journalist was shot dead in a car ambush in Ghor province in central Afghanistan, officials said on Saturday. He was the fifth journalist to be killed in the country in two months.
In the name of God, Adel Ayemak (28 years), editor-in-chief of “Sada Al-Ghor” radio station, was killed near the provincial capital, Firouz Koh, on Friday.
No one has claimed responsibility for the incident.
Afghan President Ashraf Ghani condemned the murder of the journalist, and said his government was committed to supporting and promoting freedom of expression.
A civil society activist was also killed on Friday in an attack by unidentified gunmen.
The killing of journalists, officials and human rights activists has increased in recent months with the increase in violence in Afghanistan, despite peace talks between the government and the “Taliban” movement.
The “Taliban” had said in December that it was not responsible for killing media professionals.
