The Egyptian national football team doctor revealed the latest developments in the injury of star Mohamed Salah – yesterday, Thursday – during the match against Ghana 2-2 in the second round of the second group competitions of the African Cup of Nations, currently being held in Ivory Coast.
In a statement reported by Egyptian media, Mohamed Abu El-Ela confirmed that the captain of the “Pharaohs” team is suffering from pain in the posterior muscle and will undergo x-ray examinations, in order to accurately diagnose the extent of the injury, and determine whether or not he will participate in the upcoming confrontation with Cape Verde.

The 31-year-old Liverpool English winger fell after a collision with Ghanaian defenders, and remained lying on the ground for several minutes, then emerged in pain while holding the back muscle of his thigh. Ghana took advantage of this, as its star, Mohamed Quddus, scored the goal to put the Black Stars ahead with a powerful shot from outside the area seconds later (45+3).
Mohamed Salah, who was replaced by Pyramids winger Mostafa Fathi, handed over the captaincy to Saudi Al-Ittihad defender Ahmed Hegazy.
Mohamed Salah (53 goals in 94 matches) saved his country from defeat against Mozambique in the opening match, after scoring a penalty kick in the final seconds.
The winners of each group and those in second place guarantee direct qualification to the round of 16, while the best 4 third-placed teams from the six groups also qualify for the knockout rounds.
