Today, Monday, Iran announced the arrival of 3 of its diplomats to Saudi Arabia to represent it in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and confirmed its readiness to reopen its embassy in Riyadh.
“Three Iranian diplomats have arrived in Jeddah to start their work in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation,” said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh – in a press conference broadcast on state television.
He also indicated that Iran is ready to reopen its embassy in Saudi Arabia, pointing out that the matter is due to the executive steps taken by the Saudi side.
Iranian state television said in a report that the three diplomats arrived in Jeddah a few days ago, for the first time in nearly 6 years.
The work of the Iranian representation in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation stopped in the city of Jeddah after the Iranian-Saudi diplomatic relations were cut off in 2016, following an attack on Saudi diplomatic missions in the cities of Tehran and Mashhad, Iran.
Last December, a Saudi Foreign Ministry official revealed that his country had agreed to grant visas to 3 Iranian diplomats to represent their country in the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah.
After 6 years of estrangement, the two countries began last year 4 rounds of negotiations in Iraq with the aim of normalizing relations.
