Before the launch of The Last of Us 2, its director, Neil Darkman, revealed that he had been subjected to death threats by some of the game’s fans who were angry at what they saw in the leaked videos last April, which revealed accurate details of the story as the fate of one of its main characters.
After being brought up, I was criticized by many for the story that did not particularly appeal to the audience of the first part, as he saw what happened at the beginning of the game, an insult to a character that we attached to it a lot and perhaps it is one of the strongest characters of the PlayStation generation that Sony made so well. It seems that this matter has passed the stage of criticism of some.
Where the actress Laura Bailey, who played Abe in the game, revealed that she received many threatening messages by angry players, and those say that they will search for her and slaughter her for the heinous act of killing Jules, and some wished that her family would die of cancer and there were those who threatened to kill her children.
After the messages spread, some, including actress Ashley Johnson, playing Elie’s role in the game, stood by Laura and supported her against the hate speech prevailing against her these days. Johnson expressed admiration for her colleague’s performance, how she performed her role, and that she had all the respect.

Darkman had stated that when a developer makes something he knows will disappoint the audience of his game, the product’s criticism is natural and a cost the developer must pay and they have to accept some feelings of hate.

Man. I try to only post positive stuff on here… but sometimes this just gets a little overwhelming. I blacked out some of the words cuz, ya know, spoilers.
Side note. Thank you to all the people sending me positive messages to balance it out. It means more than I can say.❤️ pic.twitter.com/kGyULWPpNu

The director had revealed that he had changed the course of the story in the game, as the story would have made you seem to control Abe’s personality in the first game, and the killing of Gul was postponed for a later time, while clarifying the reason for Abe’s revenge on him. Frankly, I think that this scenario might have been better than the final version. In the end, he killed a main character, not new in games (Burning Red Dead 2). Frockstar, for example, killed Arthur at the conclusion of Red Dead 2, but that happened at the end of the game, and it was in a way that did not provoke the players that he sacrificed himself to save the John family, and here, despite the sadness, no one felt angry at Rockstar, who realizes how Heroes respect their games and end the stories, Mr. Darkman!
In conclusion, I think that no matter how angry you are about a game, this does not mean that you have the right to threaten the workers on it, because this matter is dangerous if it spreads to the world of industry, in the end it is an entertainment product that you either buy or not.
I love you @LauraBaileyVO. Your performance in the game was an absolute revelation and it transformed me. It was an honor to be on that stage with you. So much love and adoration.
