The Belfast Giants club, competing in the British Ice Hockey League, announced – yesterday, Wednesday – that it had signed Czech Petr Cech, former goalkeeper for Chelsea and Arsenal, on loan from the Oxford City Stars team.
41-year-old Cech, who participated in more than 600 matches with the Blues and Gunners, retired from football at the end of the 2018-2019 season before switching to ice hockey and joining the British Guildford Phoenix team.
Last June, the former Czech international signed with Oxford City Stars to be their goalkeeper for the 2023-2024 season.
Belfast Giants coach Adam Keefe said: “Peter is a high-caliber, award-winning athlete who knows what it takes to perform at the highest levels, so his support during his loan period will be extremely important.”
