Security forces in Dhi Qar province, southern Iraq
The office of the Prime Minister of Iraq, Mustafa Al-Kazemi, issued a statement regarding the events of Dhi Qar, stressing that the measures that were taken represent a prelude to embarking on a major campaign for the reconstruction of the province, on top of which is the appointment of a new governor.
The statement said, “The Prime Minister, Mustafa Al-Kazimi, confirms that the recent measures that have been taken with regard to Dhi Qar Governorate, including assigning a new governor to the governorate, forming an advisory council linked to the Prime Minister, and opening a broad investigation to find out those responsible for the recent events, represent a prelude to proceeding. In a major reconstruction campaign. “
Al-Kazemi called on “the people of Dhi Qar governorate and its noble clans to contribute to the pacification to give the new administration sufficient opportunity to carry out its tasks in serving the city.”
He added, “The government will provide all support to the new governor, Abdul-Ghani Al-Asadi, and the advisory council for the advancement of the governorate and providing services to its citizens.”
It is noteworthy that the governorate witnessed two deaths and wounding dozens due to clashes between demonstrators and security forces, against the backdrop of protests calling for the resignation of the local government in Dhi Qar due to the deterioration of living conditions there.
