Reuters reported, quoting local sources, on Thursday, that an Ethiopian journalist and his friend were killed after an unknown person shot them in Maqli, the capital of Tigray region in northern Ethiopia.
An aid worker told Reuters that Dawit Kebede, who was working for the official local Tigray TV, was shot dead Tuesday evening while in his car with his friends.
He added, “Both the journalist and his friend were shot in the head.”
And rights groups say that freedom of the press has declined since the battles that took place last November between federal forces and forces loyal to the former ruling party in Tigray, which lost control of the provincial capital, Muqali, late that month.
