AICM TUA will become 7.8% more expensive by 2023

The Airport Use Fee (OLD) from Mexico City International Airport (AICM) during 2023 for domestic flights will be 28.04 dollars and for international flights 53.24 dollars, which will represent an increase in both cases of 7.8%, compared to this year, the highest registered during the present federal administration.

The amount of the OLD It is established by the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), considering the increase in the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers (Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers: All Items), published by the Federal Reserve Bank of the United States of America.

During 2022 it rose 6.2%, in 2021 1.2%, in 2020 1.8% and in 2019 1.8% for national and 25.3% for international travel (which was adjusted to the average of other airports in the country at the close of of the previous six-year term).

The rate (which can represent up to 60% of the cost of a plane ticket, according to the business model of each airline, in some cases promotions are made in which tickets are sold for 20 pesos plus TUA and taxes) is expressed in dollars and each month the AICM will determine its equivalent in Mexican pesos.

“A significant reduction in passengers would compromise the international commitment in force in bonds, with the issuance of which the construction of the airport in Texcoco was going to be funded, which have the TUA of AICM as a guarantee of payment and for whose fulfillment it is required to attend a minimum of 40 million of total passengers per year… It is important that the AICM and the Federal Civil Aviation Agency (AFAC) define based on this consideration if a reduction in flights could be carried out and their migration to AIFA” refers to a document from the Ministry of Infrastructure, Communications and Transportation (SICT).

The new rate will be in effect from January 1 to December 31, 2023.

AICM passenger flow in November

Based on statistics from AICMIn November, a total of 4,119,622 passengers were served in commercial operations, which represented a decrease of 1.5% compared to the previous month.

Of these passengers, 67% made domestic flights and the busiest day was Friday the 18th with 148,872 travelers.

With the data from November, the AICM added 42 million 013,751 passengers between January and November, 31.3% more than the same period in 2021.
