(Trends Wide) — Authorities are investigating the death of a ground worker at the San Antonio International Airport who was “swallowed” by an airplane engine on Friday.
“On Friday, June 23, Delta Flight 1111 had arrived at San Antonio International Airport from Los Angeles and was taxiing to the gate on an engine when a worker was engulfed by that engine at around 10:25 p.m. [hora local]”The National Transportation Safety Board said in a statement sent to Trends Wide on Sunday night.
The safety board said it is continuing to gather information about the incident.
An airport spokesperson said San Antonio International is working with authorities in its investigation.
“An accident occurred on the ground at San Antonio International Airport (SAT) on Friday night that resulted in the death of an airline ground crew member,” spokeswoman Erin RodrÃguez said in a statement.
“We are deeply saddened by this incident and are working with authorities as they begin their investigation. We will share more information as details become available.”
Delta Airlines said it was “heartbroken” by the loss.
“We are heartbroken and saddened by the loss of life of an aviation family member in San Antonio. Our hearts and all our support go out to his family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time,” a Delta spokesperson said. to Trends Wide in an email.
