- Onana, valued at £50m, will be allowed to leave the Amsterdam outfit next year
Andre Onana arrives at Anfield with Ajax on Tuesday night looking to stake his claim for a Premier League move at the second time of asking.
Last February, Sportsmail reported the 24-year-old, valued at £40-50million, had dreams of joining Tottenham or Chelsea.
The Cameroon international, who came through the ranks at Barcelona, had tasted Champions League heartbreak at the hands of English opponents. After failing to beat them, he wanted to join them.

There were interested parties – Onana’s representatives held talks with Chelsea, who instead turned to a familiar finishing school.
They signed Edouard Mendy from Rennes – the former home of both Petr Cech and Chelsea’s head of goalkeeping Christophe Lollichon. It has proved a shrewd move, while Tottenham stuck with Hugo Lloris and signed Joe Hart as a back-up.
But Onana’s ambitions have not been tempered. Despite committing to a seventh season in Amsterdam, the 24-year-old remains keen on a move next summer. The Premier League remains his preferred destination.
And so Tuesday’s Champions League clash with Liverpool represents a chance to prove wrong those clubs who looked elsewhere. It’s also a welcome night in the shop window.

On Tuesday, the Ajax goalkeeper will have the chance to impress potential suitors at Anfield
According to UEFA’s technical reports, Onana has been among the best goalkeepers in the Champions League for each of the past two seasons.
Even as the Dutch giants failed to replicate their 2018-19 run to the semi-finals, Onana again ranked first for goals prevented (5.27) and had the highest save percentage (82) of anyone in the competition.
He watched as Ajax suffered another summer of blood-letting, with Hakim Ziyech – a close friend of the goalkeeper – and Donny van de Beek securing Premier League moves.
Onana will hope Tuesday’s clash is the next leg on his battle to prove these shores are where he belongs.
