Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar affirmed his country’s determination to “end terrorism” through cooperation with the Iraqi central government and the Kurdistan Regional Government of Iraq.

“We are determined to end terrorism through the cooperation that we will establish with Baghdad and the northern region of Iraq,” Akar said in statements he made today, Wednesday, at the Turkish consulate headquarters in the Iraqi city of Erbil.
He added that the coming stage will witness important developments in terms of Ankara’s cooperation with both Baghdad and Erbil in combating terrorism.
Akar indicated that Turkey is closely following “the removal of terrorists from the vicinity of Sinjar” in Iraq, and that Ankara “is ready to provide support in this regard.”
Since Monday evening, Akar has been conducting an official visit to Iraq, during which he held talks in the capital, Baghdad, with senior Iraqi officials, and met the Prime Minister of the Northern Territory, Masrour Barzani, and the former President of the region, Massoud Barzani, in Erbil.
