The Observatory stressed in a statement, today, Sunday, that these settlement plans represent a flagrant violation of the age covenant, which stipulates the preservation of Palestinian lands, and the concern for Christian churches.
He emphasized that Israel targets everything Palestinian with the aim of changing the demographic reality in Jerusalem for the benefit of the settlers.
Al-Azhar Observatory rejected “Israel’s policy that permits Palestinian sanctities, both Islamic and Christian,” the latest of which was the terrorist incident in which an extremist settler attempted to set fire to the “Gethsemane” church in Jerusalem.
The observatory called on the international community to address settlement policies that conflict with international laws, and to provide protection for Palestinian holy sites.
