In a post on Twitter in Arabic and English, Al-Sadr wrote, “I have received that there are some opponents to the Pope’s visit to Iraq. Opening up to religions is desirable and his visit to Iraq is welcome, and our hearts before our doors are open to him.”
Al-Sadr added, “Najaf is the capital of religions, so you are welcome as a lover of peace.”
The Vatican had announced earlier the program of Pope Francis’ visit to Iraq, which begins on the fifth of March 2021 and will last for 3 days, where he will visit Baghdad, the ancient city of Ur, Erbil, Mosul, Qaraqosh, and Najaf.
