Fayez Al-Sarraj, head of the Libyan government’s Presidency Council, called on the international community and relevant international organizations to “provide technical and technical assistance and contribute to supervising the elections.”
“A sum of money has been allocated to the High Electoral Commission, and we are ready to harness all necessary capabilities and arrangements to enable the commission to carry out its national work efficiently and professionally,” Al-Sarraj said in a televised speech.
He explained that “the provision of financial and logistical support is undoubtedly an important factor, but it is not sufficient by itself to make this entitlement successful. The matter requires concerted efforts and unification of state institutions, and it also requires the existence of a unified executive authority to create the atmosphere and provide a safe and stable environment.”
Al-Sarraj called for “the unified authority, with the help of the House of Representatives, the Supreme Council of State and the Libyan Dialogue Forum, to create a sound constitutional basis for elections to take place.”
He stressed the need for “the international community not to be complacent towards those who do not respect the results of the elections, and to take a firm stance towards those who reject them or obstruct the political process.”
On November 15, the work of the Libyan Political Forum, which was held in Tunis under the auspices of the United Nations, was concluded, during which the date of December 24, 2021, was set as the date for holding parliamentary and presidential elections in the country.
