A $16.99 bottle of Chardonnay has won a gold trophy at a prestigious wine awards in Australia, beating expensive drops costing as much as $100.
Aldi’s Blackstone Paddock Margaret River Chardonnay 2019 has been named the best white wine at the 2020 Langton’s Margaret River Wine Show.
The winning drop took home three trophies – Best White Wine of Show, Best Chardonnay of Show and Gold in class 15 for 2019 Chardonnay – after it was rated by a tasting panel of some of the nation’s and the world’s best judges.

The white wine has proved once and for all wine lovers don’t need to fork out a fortune to enjoy a good drop.
The fan favourite Chardonnay has been described as ‘rich, layered nose with both fresh, crisp fruit notes and softer creamier aromas’.
‘Subtle bouquet of freshly sliced lemon and white flowers. Crisp, clean and lively with subtle mealy complexity and cashew nut that builds to the finish. Elegant and refined,’ one judge previously said.
The bottle pairs perfectly with duck.

The cabernet sauvignon has been described as a ‘complex and intriguing mix of blackcurrant, anise and lifted violet aromas’.
‘These flavours are underpinned by velvet smooth tannins and a long, succulent finish exhibiting trademark Margaret River persistence,’ the description reads.
Aldi wines are widely known for punching well above their weight in terms of taste, price and diversity of range.
The awards took place on Thursday, November 19 at Leeuwin Estate.
