Alert for possible violence after capture of Tony Montana

The Embassy of the United States in Mexico issued a security alert to its compatriots to avoid traveling to the state of Jalisco for fear of violent reactions due to the arrest of Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, alias Tony Montana, brother of Nemesio Oseguera Cervantes, El Mencho , leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel (CJNG).

Through an alert, the US representation noted that “Jalisco has used a Statewide Security Alert and increased security presence in the Guadalajara Metropolitan Area after the reported arrest of a cartel member. There is the possibility of conflicts between the police and criminal elements.”

For this reason, they made the emergency numbers available to their citizens in case of any eventuality, as well as the pages of their social networks to be attended promptly in case of being in an alarm situation.

Likewise, the US embassy asks its citizens to be careful about the environment in which they develop or mobilize; keep an eye on the news in local media to obtain information updates and follow the instructions of the authorities.

In addition, it asks that they “maintain a high level of vigilance and a low profile”, in order not to attract the attention of potential criminals.

Detention

Early this Tuesday morning, the Secretary of National Defense (Sedena) arrested Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, in the vicinity of the municipality of Tlajomulco de Zúñiga, in Jalisco. Tony Montana is accused of being the second in command of the CJNG, as well as a logistics operator, responsible for money laundering and in charge of buying large amounts of weapons for said cartel.

After his arrest, Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, appeared on Wednesday before the Specialized Prosecutor for Organized Crime (FEMDO), with a period of 48 hours to be brought before a federal judge or request preventive detention.

The arrest of Tony Montana occurred through cooperation efforts with the Attorney General’s Office and the National Guard, who together with the Sedena obtained information about the presence of one of the Oseguera Cervantes inside a building, a place where that six handguns, a long gun, a package of apparent cocaine, two vehicles and nine chargers were also seized.

It should be noted that Antonio Oseguera Cervantes, brother of Nemesio Oseguera “El Mencho”, top leader of the Jalisco Nueva Generación Cartel (CJNG), had already been arrested in 1996 and 2015, both in Mexico and in the United States.
