The Pasteur Institute in Algeria announced, on Thursday evening, the registration of the first two cases of the modified British Corona strain.
A statement by the institute stated: “In the context of the ongoing genetic research carried out by the Pasteur Institute in Algeria on the“ SARS-COV2 ”virus, within the framework of active monitoring of the changing strains currently circulating in the world, two cases of infection with the new British strain that carries the N50Y mutations were confirmed on February 19, 2021. / D164G, which was first detected on September 20, 2020 in Kent, UK.
According to the institute, these two strains were discovered by a user of the health sector at the level of the mental health hospital in Al-Sharqa (which is currently isolated), in addition to a citizen returning from France to attend his father’s funeral.
The institute indicated that earlier analyzes were carried out on suspicious samples from Beni Messous Hospital and Zamirli Hospital, and their results were negative regarding the four new strains that appeared in Britain, South Africa, Brazil and Japan.
