Newcastle star Allan Saint-Maximin poked fun at rivals Sunderland on social media after the Black Cats lost their League One play-off semi-final to Lincoln last week.
Sunderland were edged out 3-2 on aggregate by their promotion-chasing rivals to leave them stuck in the third tier for another season – their fifth away from the Premier League since their relegation in 2017.
Lee Johnson’s side sat one point behind the automatic promotion spots in March, at a time when Newcastle were embroiled in a relegation dogfight with Fulham – with Saint-Maximin taking to Twitter to celebrate another season in the top-flight for the Magpies.

The forward tweeted on Sunday night: ‘Im looking for a song that a lot of people sent me (in) march but I can’t remember the title, it was something like “Sunluns going up and the mags are going down” Who can help me please?’
Steve Bruce’s Newcastle won six out of their final nine matches to steer away from the relegation zone, with Saint-Maximin’s goals playing a crucial part in the Magpies’ survival.
The 24-year-old netted a goal and an assist in a relegation six-pointer away at Burnley while also claimed another set-up in a win over West Ham as Bruce’s men ended the season strongly.
Saint-Maximin ended the 2020-21 season with three goals and five assists in his 26 appearances in all competitions for the Magpies.
On-loan Arsenal midfielder Joe Willock also played his part in Newcastle’s survival bid, scoring in each of the final seven matches of the season before heading back to north London.
Sunderland, meanwhile, tried to set up a League One play-off final contest against Blackpool at Wembley but fell short against Lincoln – who are bidding for a first season in the second tier in 50 years.

The Black Cats trailed 2-0 from the first-leg at the home of the Imps, but Sunderland erased that lead in the space of half an hour in the return leg at the Stadium of Light.
Ross Stewart and Charlie Wyke levelled the tie at 2-2 at half-time of the second-leg but Tom Hopper’s winner after the interval proved to be the decisive strike for Lincoln.
It is the second time in recent seasons that the Black Cats have stumbled in the League One play-offs. The north-east club last appeared in that stage of the season in 2019 but lost 2-1 to Charlton in the Wembley final.
