Following his role in the Netflix miniseries American Primeval, actor Taylor Kitsch returns to the screen in a new leading role on Prime Video. While the Western drama was a limited series with no plans for a second season, fans can see Kitsch in the new thriller, The Terminal List: Dark Wolf.
American Primeval, set during the Utah War of 1857, was praised for its performances, direction, and immersive historical setting. Though it was never intended to continue beyond its initial run, viewers who enjoyed Kitsch’s performance as the hardened Isaac will find a similar appeal in his latest project.
The Terminal List: Dark Wolf, a spin-off of the hit series The Terminal List, shifts the focus to Kitsch’s character, Ben Edwards. The show has already achieved significant success, earning a 71% on Rotten Tomatoes—a notable improvement on the original’s 40% score—and has become the number one show on Prime Video.
Although the two series differ in genre, they share a focus on visceral action and feature Kitsch in a physically demanding, trauma-driven role. Both his character Isaac in American Primeval and Ben in Dark Wolf are defined by their pasts, navigating worlds of intense, realistic violence.
These recent successes mark a resurgence for Kitsch, whose career faced challenges after starring in several big-budget films like John Carter and Battleship. His subsequent television work, including roles in True Detective and Waco, delivered memorable performances but garnered mixed critical reviews. The positive reception for both American Primeval and Dark Wolf has reversed this trend.
Looking ahead, Kitsch is set to write, direct, produce, and star in an independent crime drama titled Pieces, which is based on his own short film. His current success suggests he is well-positioned for more prominent opportunities.
