In a video message sent to the CELAC participants, López Obrador stressed his support for the Brazilian president, whom he has described as his “brother”:
“We cannot accept attempts, much less coups d’état; neither military nor technical. Freedom and authentic democracy must be respected. It is the people who are in charge,” added the president.
López Obrador also opted for an American integration that includes all the countries of the continent. The mexican president He trusted that America could one day achieve an integration equivalent to that achieved by the European Union.
Andrés Manuel López Obrador said that in order to achieve full integration in the Americas, a community effort is necessary with the mutual support and respect of the nations of the continent.
“Let that outdated, anachronistic policy of ‘America for the Americans’, the Monroe Doctrine, be put aside and that there be no more hegemonies (…) There are more things that unite us,” said López Obrador.
