AMLO signs decree to guarantee water supply in Nuevo León for 10 more years

The president of the Republic, Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador indicated that to resolve the water crisis in Nuevo León, which is affecting the poorest population the most, those who do not have water pipes, he signed a decree and promised that before the end of his government there will be a supply of water for 8 to 10 years with a series of actions to be carried out immediately.

The president began his morning conference, mentioning that the actions of the federal government in Nuevo León will be reinforced in view of the need for water supply, and although the state government and the municipalities have been supported and worked with, progress has been made, but water scarcity continues and it will take longer to recover, even though it has already started to rain.

“And the poor population is being affected more, those who do not have water lines, do not have infrastructure and have to carry water in tankers. So, we are going to reinforce the support, some additional measures are going to be taken and today (I am) going to sign a decree for that purpose, ”he emphasized.

“It is to resolve the problem in the medium and long term and reinforce actions immediately. Perhaps, being strict in our assessment, the solutions that we are proposing —and they will be carried out with the support of the state government and the municipal governments— will allow us to continue working forward, but we will be able to guarantee water eight or 10 years forward.

And other authorities are coming to continue investing and extend the term, but we promise that before the end of this government there will be a supply of water for eight or 10 years from now, starting now with this reinforcement plan,” he asserted. AMLO.

For his part, the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López Hernández, commented that this Friday, July 29, a decree will be signed and published by which the National Water Commission is empowered to support the government of Nuevo León, the municipal governments of the metropolitan area, with the aim of guaranteeing access to quality drinking water for all its inhabitants.

This action includes 18 municipalities in the metropolitan area of ​​Nuevo León, “it will benefit practically immediately more than the inhabitants of those municipalities that today do not receive drinking water and the National Water Commission is empowered to support and coordinate the operational efforts of the state drinking water agency and to dispose, prior agreement, as has been done, with the concessionaires, of all the concessioned water to immediately attend to the drought.

“The decree details the investment to be made, state, municipal and federal support for the construction of the Libertad dam, which is already in process, and the El Cuchillo II aqueduct, which runs from the El Cuchillo dam to the area of Nuevo León to the water intake, that these two are medium-term actions”, he clarified.

And within the framework of the DN-III Plan, the Ministry of Defense is instructed to provide immediate support, with tank cars to supply water to the population, concluded the Secretary of the Interior.
