Andrés Manuel López Obrador revealed that he sent a letter to the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to carry out a procedure before the United States embassy to help the sisters of the drug trafficker, Joaquín el Chapo Guzmán Loera, who is confined in that country, and so they could visit him.
During his morning press conference, the Mexican Executive commented that the relatives of Guzmán Loera would have requested help, through a letter.
“Yes, they asked me on that occasion, I think, they gave me a letter where they asked me for the sisters of Joaquín Guzmán Loera to visit him, and I did the paperwork, that is, I sent it to the Secretary of Relations so that it could be done. the process at the US embassy. I don’t know how it ended, whether he was allowed to visit or not. But I do remember that letter,” commented the Mexican president.
Visits to Badiraguato
The Mexican president’s comments come after he announced that he would have made a visit to Sinaloa, the state from which the drug trafficker is from.
It is opportune to remember that AMLO has visited, on at least four occasions, the town of Badiraguato, the original land of Joaquín Guzmán Loera: the first was in 2019; the second in 2020; in 2021 he went again.
While this 2022 he visited it last May and, this October, it would have been his fifth visit.
The president denied this last visit by stating that the place he visited was Guamúchil.
“There is a campaign on networks, that I went to Sinaloa, to Badiraguato, to meet with the Sinaloa Cartel. Well no! I go to Sinaloa because it is a state of good people, of hard-working people, who should not be stigmatized. For those who do not have information, Sinaloa is the breadbasket of the country”, he stated.
In March 2020, the Presidency of the Republic released the letter that María Consuelo Loera Pérez, mother of Guzmán Loera, had sent to President Obrador requesting help to obtain a humanitarian visa to go to the United States and visit the drug trafficker.
“I want to insist on your support for me to be allowed to visit my son,” the letter stated.
It is appropriate to mention that in January 2017, Chapo was extradited from Mexico to the United States, where he was guarded by US authorities.
The action was accepted since 2016, however, Joaquín Guzmán requested a series of injunctions to try to stop the fact.
