AMLO threatens

On the morning of October 20, President López allowed himself three sentences that confirm his intentions regarding the immediate future of his project:

1.- “For them to learn, keep voting against the Navy, keep voting against the Secretary of Defense, keep voting in the chambers against the National Guard. That is what the people think.”

The message was directed against the parties that opposed in Congress the extension of the armed forces in security tasks until 2028 and the transfer of the National Guard to the Ministry of Defense. Was it a threat? It seemed that way, but in any case it is the voice of a man who does not believe in democracy and dialogue but rather in the subjugation of the majority in the Congress of the Union and in the state congresses with his new ally in this matter, Alejandro’s PRI Dark.

2.- “And now, I am sure, that I am going to deliver the post office to those who are going to continue, I am sure of that, that makes me very happy, because there is going to be no going back, whatever my little finger says No, they are not going to return the corrupt, their advertising campaigns, their dirty war, are not going to work.”

Does this security emanate from the successes that your government has had in terms of security, combating corruption and poverty, improving education, the economy and jobs, and defending the environment? No, because in all these areas the surveys rate his government poorly and the dismal results are visible in each of these areas.

The certainty that he will deliver the post office to an unconditional and close person is based on the illegal acts and propaganda of his three “corcholatas”, on AMLO’s constant interference in electoral matters, on the use of government programs to create clienteles, on the opacity of an administration that does not reveal the fate of large sums of money and in its attempt to destroy or subdue the National Electoral Institute (INE) and the Electoral Court of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF). Citizen indifference to these issues, the weakness of the real opposition and the silence of the media is contributing to this.

3.- “And I am very happy, because there is relief in sight. That, then, is a guarantee that we are going to continue transforming the country. I’m not going to be here anymore, because I’m going to retire, I’ll hand over the band at the end of September and I’ll retire and politically I’ll disappear”.

At this point there is a question: will he withdraw only if his candidate wins? That seems to be warning. Of course, none of these warnings or intentions are new, he has expressed them over and over again, but as his six-year term expires he seems more authoritarian and closed to criticism, regardless of where they come from.

All of these are elements that support the idea that the president is carrying out a slow-motion self-coup, nullifying the democratic institutions (INE, TEPJF, opposition parties, critics, the press, intellectual groups) and imposing to continue your project. I have no doubt that in case of need it will be himself, either as president or behind the scenes and with the support of the armed forces.

The role of the high command of SEDENA and SEMAR, the provocative task of the Secretary of the Interior, Adán Augusto López, against the opposition governors and the hardening of the presidential language seem to point in that direction.

We cannot say that we are surprised by his intentions.
