AMLO’s electoral amendment divides opinions

“It was found that the positive general opinion about the Institute, the favorable evaluation of its current performance and the perception of electoral cleanliness in the elections it organizes are the variables most associated with the greatest confidence in this national electoral body,” stated the study of the survey prepared by Ulises Beltrán y Asociados.

Regarding the need for an electoral reform, such as the initiative presented by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador to Congress, 51% of Mexicans considered that it is very or somewhat necessary, while 44% —a close proportion— believe the opposite ( little/nothing).

The most supported proposals of the president’s initiative were: allocate fewer resources to political parties (93%), reduce the number of federal deputies and senators (87%), elect electoral councilors and magistrates directly by citizens (78%) , reduce the resources granted to the INE (74%) and expand the use of electronic voting (68%).
