AMLO’s electoral reform threatens the Constitution and democracy: PAN

The national leader of the National Action Party (PAN), Marko Cortés, reiterated that the federal legislators of his party will fight in the Union Congress against the electoral reform proposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, which he said threatens the Constitution, the country and democracy.

In a Sunday message, the party leader said that “it is not a simple legislative discussion in Congress or one more initiative; democracy and the entire country are at risk, the Constitution is under threat from the National Palace”.

Marko Cortés said that just as President López Obrador has attacked, finished and destroyed important social programs and disappeared works that benefited Mexicans, “now with that same destructive logic he is going against the autonomous bodies to disappear or control them.”

The elimination of independent institutions only favors the concentration of power in the government, since checks and balances vanish and civil liberties and rights are limited. National sovereignty lies in the people and the best way to express it is at the polls, since in fact, without a reliable arbiter who guarantees cleanliness and transparency in the elections, the right to decide would be taken away from Mexicans.” , he highlighted.

He mentioned that citizens have the PAN to defend their causes, and added that what is at stake is the democratic freedom of Mexicans, for which he anticipated that it will be one of the most important battles in the coming days in Congress, “before the attempt of the Moreno regime to disappear and align the arbitrator and the electoral court with their interests.”

Marko Cortés highlighted that the true alliance of PAN it is with society, which is why it celebrated and supported the march called by different social organizations in defense of the INE. He called for civil society to demand more firmly that opposition legislators reject any democratic regression, join forces and prevent the destruction of the country.
