On Tuesday, the US Commerce Department issued a final decision to impose anti-dumping duties on aluminum coil imports from 16 countries.
These duties amount to 242.8 percent on imports from Germany and 83 percent on imports from Bahrain.
The ministry said it exempted imports of aluminum coils from Greece and South Korea from those duties.
On February 2, the White House announced that President Joe Biden intends to maintain customs duties on aluminum imports from the UAE, reversing a step taken by his predecessor Donald Trump to end the duties in the last days of his presidency.
Biden said in a statement issued by the White House at the time, “I think it is necessary and appropriate in light of our national security interests that we maintain at this time the customs duties applied to aluminum imports from the United Arab Emirates.”
Trump announced on January 20 that he would exempt the UAE from customs duties of 10% imposed on most aluminum imports in 2018, adding that the two countries had reached a quota agreement that would limit aluminum imports.
