US Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin announced that the US Air Force bombed on Wednesday a “weapons facility” in eastern Syria that he said was “linked to Iran,” in “response to attacks targeting Americans.”
Austin said in a statement, “The US military forces carried out a self-defense strike against a facility in eastern Syria that it uses.” Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and affiliated groups.
The statement indicated that the strike was carried out by two American F-15 aircraft, and came “in response to the recent attacks targeting American forces” in Iraq and Syria.
The US Secretary of Defense said that his forces are ready to take additional measures “in defense of our forces and facilities, and we urge non-escalation.”
A Pentagon official said in an interview with Al Jazeera that American forces in Iraq and Syria have been subjected to 41 attacks since last October 17.
The official indicated that American forces in Al-Shaddadi area Near the city of Hasakah in eastern Syria, it was attacked yesterday, Wednesday, without causing any casualties or damage.
