Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Emirati academic, Abdul Khaleq Abdullah, has commented on the Saudi government’s announcement of its intention to stop contracting with foreign companies that have regional headquarters outside the kingdom by 2024.
The Emirati academic wrote, in his Twitter account, that transcontinental companies and banks have been using Dubai for 30 years to run their operations and branches in 50 countries.
Abdul-Khaleq considered that these institutions “chose Dubai over others because of the quality of life, competitive advantages, a legislative and social environment, and a unique infrastructure that will not leave it, despite this, a million people are welcome to compete.”
The transcontinental companies and banks that have taken Dubai-based for 30 years to run their operations and branches in 50 countries, from India to Morocco and from Turkey to Nigeria, they chose Dubai alone because of the quality of life, competitive advantages, a legislative and social environment, and a unique infrastructure that will not leave it, yet a million welcome to the competition https: https://t.co/ec7jPlvssk
The Emirati academic’s statements about the Saudi government’s announcement are not the first for a prominent Emirati figure. Earlier on Wednesday, Lieutenant General Dhahi Khalfan, Deputy Chief of Dubai Police, said that the Dubai trade route is not limited to the Gulf region, which is its smallest market, but its trade movement is global.
Khalfan said, in a series of tweets on his Twitter account, that “Dubai is no longer a regional site on the trade map, but an international site. 75% of Dubai’s imports are re-exported to countries of the world, and re-exports require a series of measures that Dubai has prepared for it and all difficulties have been overcome.”
While Khalfan believed that “the decision to oblige international companies to open or boycott their offices in the Kingdom may harm other Gulf countries that are much weaker economically than the Emirates. The UAE is recovering, thank God.”
