It is unclear whether the video, which Donald Jr. filmed on his mobile phone, was filmed before or after Trump’s speech on Wednesday, in which he called on his supporters to “fight harder” and “head to the Capitol.”
The video begins by thanking Donald Jr. “the wonderful patriots who are tired of shit”. Ivanka also described them as “patriots” in a tweet posted after the outbreak of violence, but later deleted it, following the backlash.
Donald Jr. then urges his father’s supporters to “fight”, before switching on the phone to show his father and sister talking to prominent figures in the White House, while several television screens show news footage of their supporters marching toward the Capitol.
Others in the video can be seen laughing and dancing, while a pop song is played out loud in the background.
Hours later, Trump supporters attacked the Capitol, where Congress was meeting to endorse President-elect Joe Biden’s victory.
The president and his co-conspirators watched, cheered and danced … as the violence they incited was about to go down. This needs to be way more viral. pic.twitter.com/SOrJmBbLKD
