An Indonesian broadcaster could not control her tears and began to cry intensely while reading a news item accompanied by video clips about the transfer of premature babies from Al-Shifa Hospital in the Gaza Strip to Egypt following the Israeli army’s storming of the medical complex.
The video clip, which was broadcast by the local “TV ON” channel on the “Tik Tok” platform, showed morning news anchor Putri Wenda Sari, whose tears flowed while showing scenes of the journey transporting 31 premature babies from Al-Shifa Hospital to hospitals in the southern Gaza Strip in preparation for their transfer to Egypt to receive… Necessary care.
@tvonenews A total of 31 premature babies from Al Shifa Hospital were successfully evacuated to other hospitals in southern Gaza on Sunday (19/11/2023). All the babies will later be transferred back to hospitals in Egypt. This is because the babies were not placed in incubators because there was no electricity network, there was no adequate medical care, there was a lack of water and food because Israeli troops raided the area around the hospital. Seeing this condition, one of the tvOne presenters could not control his tears when he saw the worrying condition of premature babies in Gaza, Palestine due to attacks carried out by Israeli troops. Sari said, “The children suffer from dehydration, vomiting, and diarrhea as a result of malnutrition and the lack of clean water to prepare their own milk, which led to the death of 6 of them, after Israeli forces bombed the vicinity of Al-Shifa Hospital and imposed a siege on it that lasted for a week before it was evacuated.”
Although she was deeply affected by the scenes of children displayed in front of her on the screen, Sari continued reading, adding, “31 premature babies were successfully transferred from Al-Shifa Hospital to other hospitals in southern Gaza on Sunday, November 19, and all the children will then be transferred to hospitals in Egypt”.
She continued, “The children were not placed in nurseries due to the lack of an electricity network, the lack of adequate medical care, and there was a shortage of water and food due to the Israeli forces raiding the area surrounding the hospital.”
After she left the newsroom and was preparing to leave the channel, one of her colleagues asked her in a video clip that she posted on her page on “Tik Tok” about the reason for her crying, and she said, “I have one child, and he was born during the Delta pandemic, the mutant of the Corona pandemic. At the time of the Delta wave, my child was born.” “He was admitted to the intensive care unit. So I lived my son’s experience in the intensive care unit.”

She added, “Maybe we don’t know if there are babies or premature babies there. Are their mothers around or whether there’s been a death or their mothers been separated from them, we never know. They could be hiding anywhere, maybe because of the chaos and everyone trying to save themselves. Then I imagine “The time in the past, I couldn’t see the kids when they entered the ICU.”
Premature babies
Most pregnancies normally last 40 weeks, so a baby born before the 37th week is known as a premature baby, or a premature baby.
Premature babies are more at risk of developmental problems, and babies born between 23 and 24 weeks may survive, but they are more at risk of health complications.
Many babies born before 32 weeks, and those who weigh 2.5 kilograms or less, may need help breathing, and are usually cared for in an incubator until they are developed enough to survive on their own. Babies born between 32 and 37 weeks may also need help. To care too.
Two days ago, a first group of premature babies who were evacuated from Al-Shifa Hospital arrived in Egypt via the Rafah crossing to receive treatment.
Israeli forces stormed Al-Shifa Hospital last Wednesday after besieging it for several days, leading to the death of many wounded and a number of premature babies as a result of a power outage and the hospital running out of fuel, in addition to the running out of food, water and medicine supplies.
The Gaza Ministry of Health announced that the death toll in Al-Shifa Hospital due to the power outage since last Saturday had risen to 34, including 27 patients in intensive care and 7 premature infants.
Since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army has been waging a devastating war on Gaza, leaving more than 14,128 Palestinian martyrs, including more than 5,840 children and 3,920 women, as well as more than 33,000 injured, 75% of whom are children.
