The Culture, Tourism and Antiquities Committee of the Iraqi Parliament announced today, Tuesday, that the famous Iraqi artist, Hussein Nehme, handed over the Dhi Qar Governorate Museum an artifact dating back to the Sumerian era.
The committee stated in a press release, “The pioneering artist Hussein Nehme handed over the Nasiriyah Museum (the governorate center) to an artifact dating back to the Sumerian era, which he had purchased from a citizen.”
She added, “The chairman of the committee and the members offered ample thanks to the artist, Nehme, through a phone call with him, for his honorable national stance in order to preserve our historical and cultural wealth.”
According to the committee, artist Hussein Nehme expressed his happiness at the contact of the Vice-Chairman of the Committee, extending his thanks and pride in their work.
Hussein Nehme, one of the most famous Iraqi singers during the seventies and eighties of the last century, was born in the city of Nasiriyah in 1944.
His beginning in singing was his imitation of the songs of the late Iraqi countryside singers inside Hassan and Hadhiri Abu Aziz.
